CPLP Study Group Series for Members


From ASTD: Based on the ASTD Competency Model, the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential provides talent development professionals the ability to prove their worth to employers and to be confident in their knowledge of the field.

Whether you want to pursue earning the CPLP credential now, or you want to learn more about the profession for your development, Hawkeye ASTD membership includes the benefit of participation in CPLP Study Group Series. The fall study group will be offered live in Cedar Rapids (site TBD), with a conference call/virtual connection option for those from our other geographic sites.


When: from 5:45-8:00 PM on most Tuesdays AND Thursdays, Sept. 11– Nov. 4 (see chart of dates, topics, and facilitators at the bottom of this page)


Where: Cedar Rapids – specific location TBD (we can create conference calls so that other locations can attend without traveling)


Cost: None! This is offered as a benefit for our members.


Study Materials: The study meetings will focus on the topics covered in the CPLP exam. The ASTD Learning System is designed to prepare candidates for the CPLP Knowledge exam. The study meetings reinforce, and answer questions about, the content in the ASTD Learning System in preparation for the exam. The ASTD Learning System is available at

Additional Information to Note:  

To become a CPLP, candidates must:

  • have at least five (5) years of industry related experience (one of which may be 
  • pass a knowledge exam consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions
  • submit a successful work product that focuses on one of four Areas of Expertise - Instructional Design, Training Delivery, Performance Improvement, or Managing Learning
